This First aid course incorporates the latest science for first aid,and meets OSHA's Guidelines for First Aid.

The CPR/AED program is designed to give you the confidence to respond in an emergency situation with skills that can save a life.
TRACK 2
9:00 am - 4:00 pm Certification Prep Class - DAY *Provided by NCEA Certified Professionals
This interactive study group will allow the Candidate to further their knowledge development. Its an excellent way to "brush-up" on skills and provides more interaction than if the candidate only used the self-study method. Utilizing the training manual format, the instructor will review study objectives and knowledge reviews, provide interactive verbal quizzes, and conclude the class with a sample written test. This sample test provides the candidate with an overview of how a test question will appear on the examination.

The field of esthetics is changing rapidly and constant updates are required. Schools offering training beyond the basic scope of practice are presented with teaching advanced modalities like exfoliation, microdermabrasion, facial toning, medi-spa technology, laser or IPL light therapy, alternative therapies and the list goes on. One of the most intimidating parts of being the instructor is presenting new material, be it expanded science, technology or diversity of philosophy. This class will attempt to help you prepare for this challenge with confidence.

Updating Your Curriculum to Reflect the Needs of Estheticians in their Job Tasks
This presentation will help you as the educator/facilitator to update your curriculum that meet the needs to the job task analysis of estheticians to make them marketable in today’s industry. State regulations may not reflect more than a 600 hour licensing program, but you can enhance your existing program through beefing up your curriculum and adding an advanced program to your school.
At the conclusion of the presentation the teacher will be able to:
- Compare and contrast the NCEA’s 600 & 1200 job task analysis.
- Examine and evaluate your school’s vision & direction.
- Identify curriculum requirements and needs of school.
- Apply the steps necessary to update your curriculum.

Are you Listening? Teaching your students how to communicate with confidence.
Good communication skills are critical and an essential element in developing more rewarding relationships with supervisors, co-workers and clients. Teaching your students how to listen is an important part of the communication process, especially in the personal care business where mindful listening is imperative. This class will provide tools and techniques for eliminating negative nonverbal behavior patterns to empower communication in any situation.
At the conclusion of the presentation the teacher will be able to:
- Develop mindful listening habits.
- Describe the basics of good verbal and nonverbal communications.
- Identify the key factors in building positive interpersonal communications in the personal care industry.
- Discuss tools and techniques for appearing confident, poised and professional.

Cosmeceutical Connoisseur 101: Educating the Students on Cosmeceuticals
Enhancing the services that the student will offer to their clients is key to maintaining their client base. In this session we will identify ways to improve upon the services offered with the use of cosmeceuticals. You will also learn key ingredients to look for in products, what works, what doesn’t, and what may work in the future – all based on science
At the conclusion of the presentation the teacher will be able to:
- Identify key questions to ask vendors regarding cosmeceutical products and their ingredients
- Examine labeling requirements for cosmeceutical products the FDA, CTFA and CIR.
- Assess current ingredient technologies on the market today
- Create a “toolbox” for the student to us in the professional field.

Acne Update for Skin Care Educators
This class will provide a comprehensive overview of causes and treatment programs to aid in the prevention of acne-prone skin. We will discuss the rise of clients with problem skin and how to teach the concept of treatable programs within the scope of practice for the esthetician student.
At the conclusion of the presentation the teacher will be able to:
- Discuss the rise of clients that have problems with breakouts.
- Compare the differences in hormonal versus hereditary causes.
- Identify factors that cause clogging of pores.
- Explain how to teach the concept of treatable programs within the scope of practice for the esthetician.

Skin Cancer Screening Basics for the Esthetics Educator
The esthetician can be the first line of defense to take an active role in skin cancer screenings. This interactive presentation will consist of a combination of clinical images and case-based scenarios that will demonstrate the clinical characteristics of melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and basal cell carcinoma. Skin cancer prevention including sun safety and associated risk factors will be discussed.
At the conclusion of the presentation the teacher will be able to:
- Understand key clinical characteristics of skin cancer.
- Discuss the relevant risk factors for each of the skin cancer subtypes
- Explore some useful tips in approaching mysterious lesions.
- Discuss skin care prevention and sun safety.

As an instructor, you set the example for your students. If your energy is depleted, you are more susceptible to stress, exhaustion and burn out. Alternative therapies have a wonderful way of addressing this ever growing concern and have a positive effect on our health and well-being. Since you teach a program that allows students to ‘touch’, it makes sense to understand and inform them about this beneficial offering.

The Esthetician’s Role In A Medical Office
Working in a medical office is much different than working in a salon or spa. Not only are the treatments at a higher grade, there are many more regulations to abide by, as well as certain professional obligations to withhold. The level of professionalism will likely be at a higher standard as well. We will teach how the acronym “CHARGED” can guarantee an esthetician is professional in the workplace. CHARGED stands for Clothing, HIPAA, Advice, Responsibility, Gossip, Education, and Demeanor and is a fundamental component to any esthetician working in a medical office.
At the conclusion of the presentation the teacher will be able to:
- Provide an overview of the legalities of estheticians working with physicians.
- Explain the roles an esthetician may fill in a medical setting.
- Explain how an esthetician can build business in a medical office.
- Demonstrate the importance of professionalism in the student's career.

Understanding the Fundamentals of Lasers & Light Therapy
This class will explore current modalities including Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), lasers, and radio frequency. We will discuss how laser light was created, characteristics of common devices, and safety considerations that students need to know.

- Describe how laser light is created.
- Examine 3 characteristics of intense pulsed light (IPL)
- Review 3 common devices use for laser hair removal
- Discuss 4 devices utilize for facial rejuvenation

Hyperpigmentation and Ethnic Skin
This class will analyze melanocyte function and discuss the different types of hyperpigmentation in the various ethnic skin types. It will also provide the teacher with a better understanding of skin care interventions and medical treatments currently available to treat post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).
At the conclusion of the presentation the teacher will be able to:
- Review and discussion of melanin and the function of melanocytes.
- Discuss and define the different types of hyperpigmentation.
- Examine why skin of color has a tendency toward hyperpigmentation.
- Define post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).

- Identify the origins of essential oils and recognize individuals who made significant contributions in the field of aromatherapy.
- Apply the use of essential oils in their practice.
- Discuss how essential oils are produced, and explain purity and chemical variations.
- Differentiate methods of application in the treatment room and be able to select the correct choice for the best outcome.

This presentation will explain the anatomy and components of lymphatic system as well as the benefits and appropriate usage of lymphatic massage during facial procedures.

- Explain the anatomical systems affected by facial massage.
- Evaluate the benefits of manual massage.
- Discuss the components of proper technique.
- Identify appropriate use of massage during facial procedures.

NCEA Grassroots Advocacy
A grassroots campaign allows individual members, manufacturers/distributors to weigh in on important issues that affect the skin care industry and individual licensees. The NCEA biannual meetings provide a forum to discuss these issues with an entire room of concerned members who can make in impact. A majority vote wins on a proposed issue or standard. The standard(s) are then sent to our state regulatory boards for consideration. Each individual member can make a difference!
