How To Keep Mascara from Flaking

Do you find mysterious black dots on your upper cheekbones as the day progresses?

There are so many wonderful mascaras, and yet they often flake or "bleed" onto cheeks or replicate under eyes.

Here's a "Mascara-Stay" Checklist
  • Make sure your lashes are dry and that none of your face or eye creams have strayed onto your lashes.

  • You might try squeezing the applicator with a tissue before applying mascara. That gets rid of excess mascara and helps eliminate "clumps".

  • If your lashes are naturally long, you'll want to curl them. This will keep the mascara-coated lashes from tapping your undereye area every time you blink.

  • Make sure your undereye concealer is not too moist. You might even set the undereye area with a tiny bit of loose powder. If you're older and don't like to use powder under your eyes (it settles in wrinkles), a stick concealer like Physicians Formula Gentle Cover might be a good choice.

  • Let mascara dry thoroughly between coats. Really. Everyone says that, but no one does it.

  • Make liberal use of a clean, dry eyelash comb. Comb lashes between coats, and comb them again after everything's applied and dried. (Then wash the comb and set it to dry so you can have a clean start tomorrow.)

  • If you're still getting flecks of mascara on your face during the day, try changing to a waterproof version.(Waterproof mascara requires a special remover at the end of the day. Clarins makes one, available at department stores, and Maybelline Expert Eyes Moisturizing Mascara Remover is available at your local pharmacy. We'll go into more detail about waterproof mascara removal in an upcoming article.)

Radical troubleshooting:
  • Don't coat your lower lashes, and see if that helps.

  • Try a mascara that does not contain lengtheners.

  • Lightly powder your lashes before and between each coating of mascara.

What is Laughter Yoga?

Laughter Yoga combines Unconditional Laughter with Yogic Breathing (Pranayama).

Anyone can Laugh for No Reason, without relying on humor, jokes or comedy.

Laughter is simulated as a body exercise in a group; with eye contact and childlike playfulness, it soon turns into real and contagious laughter.

The concept of Laughter Yoga is based on a scientific fact that the body cannot differentiate between fake and real laughter.

One gets the same physiological and psychological benefits.
